Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speech writer. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the popular culture. Aiming to dispel the myths that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working on issues related the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in Social and Political thought at York University, is a well-known public speakers. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Feminist Frequency was launched in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, an undergraduate student at York University who had been interested in issues concerning gender and feminism for a considerable period of period of. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series on the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. However, the attacks did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women in pop cultural narratives.
