Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned over 40 years. London is a torch singer famous for her soft, melodic vocals and smooth contralto voice and recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955-1969. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her performance of "Cry me a river", a track that she introduced to her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began in 1944 with roles in movies. The films featured roles for the lead female role in many westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. It was the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But, she continued to be part of the emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) The show was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
