Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Juanita (nee Cordova) and Colby Carter.Her father is of English and Scots-Irish heritage, and her mother was born in Mexico is of Mexican, Spanish, and French descent. She has a brother, Vincent and a sister named Pamela. Carter was just 5 years old when she made her public television debut on the Lew Kings Talent Show. Carter was a part of Just Us during high school. The group played marimba, a conga drum and an acoustic guitar and a stand-up bass , which was played by a different girl in the group. Lynda started singing at a local pizza restaurant when she was 15. 8 years later, at 16 years old, Lynda joined two of her cousins to form another group, The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer of the band. The group was first introduced at the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months since Carter was not 21 she had to pass through the kitchen.Carter was a student at Arizona State University. After being named "Most talented" and then dropping out to pursue a career in music. In 1970, Carter auditioned and then was on tour with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first performance was at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco, which was so brand new that it did not have a sidewalk entry. They performed mostly for hotel staff and guests, who had their cars parked underground. The Garfin Gathering played shows in numerous Nevada casino lounges, which included those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter left the Garfin Gathering for acting, after which she returned to Arizona in 1972.
